SIR ALLWELL IHUNDA HANDS OVER RENOVATED STATE PRIMARY SCHOOLS TO THE RIVERS STATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION.

As the Commissioner for Education seeks for the collaboration of everyone in the funding of education in the state.

Mayor Of Port Harcourt City, Sir Allwell Ihunda has handed over the renovated State Primary School 1 & 2 Orogbum, and the State Primary School, Ibadan Street in the Old Port Harcourt Township to the Rivers State Ministry of Education.

In his remark during the handover ceremony, Sir Allwell Ihunda expressed his deep appreciation to Governor Siminialayi Fubara for graciously approving the council's request to renovate the 3 schools.
He also thanked the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedu Mmom and the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Ven. Fyneface Akah for their cooperation and approvals.

" The decision to renovate these schools was made after I inspected public schools in the LGA. with principal officers of the council; the deplorable state of these schools was so bad and we decided to intervene, considering the fact that these schools are in the heart of the city, also the state school 1 Orogbum was the primary school I attended".

The Mayor appealed to the state universal education board to improve the security in these schools, he equally urged members of the community to support the Local Government and the ministry of education to secure the facility at all times.

In his remark while receiving the schools on behalf of the state government, Rivers State Education Commissioner, Prof. Chinedu Mmom commended the Mayor for the elaborate renovation and furnishing of the schools, befitting for the pupils and teachers.

Prof. Mmom used the opportunity to seek for collaboration from all and sundry in the funding of education in the state.
He tasked other council chairmen to follow suit.

"I know other council chairmen are doing their best, but we all need to do more to support the state government's effort in the education sector.
When I saw the bad state of the schools before the renovation, I can only say posterity will always remember Sir Allwell Ihunda for his good works", Prof. Mmom said.

Earlier, while describing the project, the Director of Works in Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Engr. Charles Nnaji said the schools were renovated with quality materials that will stand the test of time and commended the contractors for a job well done.

The Commissioning and hand over ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs in the state, Engr. Charles Amadi, Chairman of the state universal basic education board Ven. Fyneface Akah, Former Member of the National Assembly, Hon. Igo Aguma, Chairman Of the PDP in PHALGA Hon. Engr Solomon Ejike Ogbonna,the Deputy Mayor, Hon. Tamunotonye Douglas, HRH Eze. Christopher Wonodi, former Chairmen CTC PHALGA Hon. Orukwem Amadi Oparaeli and Hon. Christian Chiokwa, some political leaders of Port Harcourt, Political Appointees, Members of staff of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council amongst several others.
